Oil on Canvas 3m x 5.5m together with 24 min sound piece “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye” is set in the framework of identity and a sense of self, conveyed through portraiture, looking at group identity and how fragile this is. The group is a temporal entity, a known community of people about to disperse. The whole installation consists of 66 portraits and a sound piece of fellow students with whom I have spent the last 3 (in some cases 4) years with. The paintings are close-up crops of photographs taken on our 1st week of 1st year (for administrative purposes), now being shown in the last week of the final year at the Degree Show. The coloured blanks represent students who were either (a) not present at the photo-shoot or (b) have joined the course after the 1st year; either way there is no photographic record of them from that time. In addition to the installation, there is a signed limited edition of 66 copies of the Artist's Book. |
